Visa Mobile vs. Offermatic

So apparently Visa is picking up what we’re throwing down. That’s right, according a story in the San Francisco Chronicle broken by local Business Insider reporter Matt Rosoff, Visa is getting into the online deals game. Visa Mobile, as it’s called, is a new iPhone app that offers discounts from retailers like JC Penney, Hertz and Zales. The Chronicle article implies that startups like Offermatic should be worried about Visa entering the space.

Not so fast.

First, this service is only of value to people with Visa cards. What about the rest of world that uses Mastercard or American Express? With Offermatic you can sign up for deals using a variety of credit and debit cards. We don’t lock you into just Visa.

Second, Visa Mobile is an iPhone app. Great, but what about the millions of people who don’t have an iPhone? I guess they’re shut out of Visa Mobile. With Offermatic the type of phone you use isn’t an issue. If you’ve got an email account, you can take advantage of our offers.

While we’re on the subject of iPhones – if you’re going to use Visa Mobile, you better keep it handy because we hear you’re going to need it to score those savings. Yep, you’re going to need to show your iPhone to the merchant in order to redeem the deal. With Offermatic the savings are automatic – no coupons or vouchers need to be presented. Ever.

I feel like we could go on and on here, but I think you get the point. Offermatic offers you the ability to register multiple cards across a variety of carriers. We have more than 75 offers running today from the top retailers in the world – and more are being added all the time. Plus, Offermatic offers additional rewards points on top of any already included in your bank’s rewards program.

So while we’re flattered to be positioned against Visa in the battle for savings, we’re feeling pretty great about the value and the ease-of-use that we bring to our customers. If you have an opinion, we’d love to get your take on the article.
